During early adulthood, many individuals begin families. Unfortunately, fifteen percent of couples experience infertility , or the inability to conceive easily. There are many medical infertility interventions, including in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination by donor, to name a few. There are many causes and influences on infertility, age is one of them. Below are more causes of infertility: - Male Infertility o Low sperm count or malformed sperm o Age, childhood illness, prescription drug use, cigarette smoking, and stress - Female Infertility o Age, childhood illness, prescription drug use, cigarette smoking, and stress

o Weight: over or under weight contributes to infertility o Failure to ovulate (most common cause of infertility) o High acidity in the reproductive tract destroys sperm

Concerns and Conflicts of Early Adulthood: The most pressing concerns of health and wellness which early adulthood individuals face include drug abuse, destructive dieting, and eating disorders in addition to accidents and depression. - Drug Abuse o Adolescents and early adults are the heaviest drug users

o Drug Use: ingesting any drug, regardless of amount or frequency o Drug Abuse: using a drug in a manner which is physically detrimental o Drug Addiction: a condition of drug dependence

- Dangerous Dieting

o Repetitive dieting can be unhealthy o Almost all ‘crash’ diets involve nutritional imbalance, energy loss, and vulnerability to disease o Results in an individual being dangerously underweight and in serious risk of major health problems. - Eating Disorders o Anorexia: restricted caloric intake to the point of emaciation or starvation o Bulimia: compulsive binge eating followed by purging through vomiting or laxative use
