Vocational Achievement in Early Adulthood: Work and productivity are important to young adults because they provide fulfillment and a sense of purpose. Being unemployed or losing one’s job can cause stress which leads to more instability in early adulthood. In recent years, there have been many changes in the work place. The working population has shifted from manufacturing to service. In addition, the workforce has become much more diversified than in recent years. More races are representing more percentages of the workforce. In developing countries, the majority of the workforce is male, while in the USA, 46% percent of the workforce is female. Due to such influential changes in the workplace, the implications for young adults have changed. It is impractical to think that an individual is going to remain in their first job for life. Being flexible is the key to moving through the workplace and finding a position in which the individual feels satisfied and fulfilled. People are moving in and out of the workforce every day and for many reasons. Families begin, divorce happens, families move, to name a few. Many families are forced to be dual-income families, making child-rearing more complex than in previous decades. It has become more complicated than before to coordinate family activities and logistics.
