Research into personality types has led to the classification of three different types. - Type A : these individuals tend to be more aggressive, perfectionists, and are driven in high-pressure situations. They also experience higher levels of stress, which may contribute to high blood pressure. - Type B : these individuals tend to be less competitive and calmer, than Type A personalities. - Type C : these individuals tend to hold negative emotions and may have a higher risk for developing cancer in later life. generations of early adulthood and later adulthood. Generally speaking, this role of linkage brings both joy and stress. Middle adulthood is often referred to as ‘the sandwich generation’ due to these individuals caring for aging parents and their own children. The children of these individuals are changing during this age range as well. They are becoming more independent which causes parents to have to reorganize their thinking towards their children. When children leave the house, parents may experience “empty nest” syndrome due the distance between their children and themselves. Priorities must be renegotiated in order to avoid or lessen depression as a result of the significant changes during this age range. Another issue which may arise is if adult children “return to the nest” due to financial or educational constraints. If children return to their parents’ house, the parents will have to reorganize their lives again. There are a few significant events which may occur during this age range: - Marriage and Intimate Relationships Social Dynamics: Middle adulthood is an important generation due to serving as the linkage between the

o Adults who are married through middle age tend to be happily married. o Twenty percent of women and 3% of men admit to being victims of heterosexual violence. o Heterosexual violence is often linked to male dominance, drugs, alcohol, low impulse control, and low self-esteem.  Those who experience abuse may feel as if they cannot leave the situation. o Divorce during middle adulthood may be more difficult than in earlier years for a variety of reasons.
