Achieve Test Prep: Developmental Psychology

After the baby is born, the terminology changes from fetus to neonate and there are tests to determine the health of the baby. One test is the APGAR score. On a scale of one to ten , this test assesses heart rate, color (to determine jaundice and oxygen deprivation), muscle tone, reflexes and respiratory effort. Another test, the Brazelton Neonatal Assessment Scale, is used to examine behavior (rooting, suckling, crying, etc.) and neurological functioning.
