This may be a prerequisite for clique membership Vocational Choices: Choosing a vocation during adolescence has become more difficult in recent years. There are many more choices available and each choice has a specific skill set requirement. While jobs are becoming more specialized, schools are trending to becoming more generalized. This disparity is leading to many individuals being unprepared for the workforce. As time progresses, automatic processes and artificial intelligence do as well. The opportunities for unskilled or semi-skilled laborers are becoming fewer by the day. Social class is an important role in choosing vocations. Generally speaking, adolescents from higher social classes are more likely to aspire to a professional or business occupation as a career goal, whereas, individuals from a lower SES tend to not have such aspirations and often envision themselves in service or trade occupations. Peer groups may alter their vocational choices. Depending on the environment, support, and influences in an individual’s life, the vocational choice may not be typical of their SES. Concerns and Conflicts of Adolescence: Below are a few of the main conflicts and concerns which can often arise during adolescence. There are many theories about what causes these events to occur and few ideas for treatment and prevention. - School dropouts o Dropouts face immense career problems, as most positions require some sort of education o Tend to come from lower SES families o Individuals face a higher risk of delinquency, criminal behavior, and drug addiction - Juvenile delinquency
