English Composition

English Composition Study Guide • They are monuments for people that did bad things in the past • They are offensive for African americans Some may argue that if you don’t like them, don’t look at them but that is not the case here we shouldn’t have such monuments in our society to celebrate people that did terrible atrocities to other human beings. I think that we should also be aware of the costs of taking down and disposing of such monuments as that comes to a cost that we as tax payers have to pay and then those monuments will be replaced with some other monument that we will have to pay too, so we have to take that into consideration as well. But bottomline is that even if with any costs associated with removing and replacing them, the Monuments to White Supremacy are bad for our society as a whole, even if they remind us of things that happened hundreds of years ago, they are still bad and they only serve as reminders of a sad part of our history. However as Winston Churchill said “those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it” (or something like that) so maybe having the monuments there can remind us of that bad past so we don’t do it again Weak Response Analysis: The introductory paragraph is weak. The writer uses “I” and “the topic is”, which weakens the stance immediately. Writers should avoid restating the obvious and should avoid using “I” when writing. The writer attempts to make an argument and outline points, but the points are in the form of a list, rather than a thesis statement. The author addresses counter claims and refutes the opposing argument, but there is no support or evidence from the article provided. The argumentation essays requires one quote and one paraphrase from the provided article, and this has neither. This writing is too short to adequately develop an argument and lacks any analysis of the topic. The author need to use textual support and an stronger tone within the writing to make a better argument.
