Therefore, we can conclude −2 + 5 is equal to 3.

If you have two signs written next to one another, for example, −3 + (−2) you must first turn the double signs into one.
• Double negatives make a positive −(−) = + • A negative and a positive make a negative +(−) = − or −(+) = −
So −3 + (−2) = −3 − 2 = −5 .
