Don’t Forget
• Exponents o The exponent only applies to the base. If the base is not written in parenthesis then the sign of the base doesn't apply to the exponent. o Raising a number to a negative power is the same as taking 1 over the number raised to a positive power. o Anything raised to the zero power is 1. • Radicals o The index tells you how many you need of a number to form a group. o Multiply together all the groups taken outside the radical sign and multiply all the numbers inside the radical sign when you are done simplifying. • Expressions & Equations o Equations are an expression set equal to another expression. o You can only combine like terms together. o Like terms must have the same variable raised to the same power. o To solve for an unknown quantity, do the inverse operations of what is being done to it to isolate it.
