Don’t Forget

• The mean is the average value in the dataset. To find the mean add up all the numbers and then divide by the total number of observations.

• The median is the middlemost value in the dataset. To find the median, list your number in numerical order from smallest to largest and then find the value that is most directly in the center.

o If there is an odd number of observations, you will be left with a single central value.

o If there is an even number of observations, you will be left with two central values, and you must take the average of these two values.

• The mode is the value that occurs most often. If no value in the dataset is repeated, then there is no mode for the dataset.

• It is possible for a dataset to contain more than 1 mode, but it can only have 1 mean and 1 median value.
