2.3 Decimals By now you already know decimals are numbers that contain a "decimal point," such as 1.3 or 2.075 - the number to the left of the decimal point is the whole number, and the digits to the right are a type of fractional number. For example, the decimal 0.5 represents the fraction 5 10 or 1 2 . Decimal fractions always have a denominator based on a power of 10. How to Convert a Fraction to a Decimal If you need to turn a fraction into a decimal, then the easiest method is to use a calculator to perform the division. Calculators, of course, are not always an option and that instance you will need to do long division. To see a refresher of long division with decimals refer to the example below.
