Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo , and Leonardo da Vinci painted themes on human dignity and realistic nature. Artists used nature as a setting for humans, situating a realistic human body in its natural environment and its civil society. New techniques established an organic, visual style. Painters were branching out and training in anatomy, modeling, and perspective to create more realistic human forms. Painters were known for their technique in Fresco, which was featured in churches and chapels. Tommaso di Giovanni, more commonly known as Masaccio, was amaster of perspective and three- dimensional modeling. He used linear perspective in his works like The Holy Trinity. He used chiaroscuro , a technique used by visual artists to enhance their three-dimensional art using shadowing and light, in his work The Tribute Money. Other painters adopted this method and started to show dimension and depth in their art. Botticelli is another notable painter of the era and friend of the Medici family. His masterpieces were groundbreaking for how they blended classical subjects like Venu,s with Christian and contemporary themes. His use of the female nude brought Ancient Greek ideas into the Renaissance era. Leonardo da Vinci is perhaps one of the most famous artists of all time. Although known primarily for his paintings, he was a painter, a sculptor and an inventor. Da Vinci was incredibly skilled in portraiture and is considered a master of drawing and pictorial mood. He contributed significantly to our understanding of mathematics, anatomy, mechanics, and nature. Architecture Brunelleschi was the leading architect of this time. He designed the dome of the Florence cathedral, which features a double roof with an inner and outer shell connected by a hidden buttress system -- a structure that still baffles architects today. Sculpture Sculpture began in Florence and shifted to Rome as political chaos led to the decline in Florence's power. Donatello created numerous works that decorated Florence's cathedrals and palaces. He is credited with reviving the freestanding nude sculpture that was previously associated with the
