He was desperate to escape the world of poverty, so he created an environment that represented what he thought the world should be instead of how it was in his reality. The novel explores the differences between reality and appearances. John Donne was famous for his poems that blended religious and secular themes. John Milton wrote the epic poem, Paradise Lost , about the fall from the garden of Eden.
