Client Care Assignment Assignment refers to the distribution of specific client care responsibilities among the nursing staff. The assignment of care to others, including nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, and other registered nurses, is perhaps one of the most important daily decisions that nurses make. Proper and appropriate assignments facilitate quality care. Improper and inappropriate assignments can lead to poor quality of care, disappointing outcomes of care, the jeopardization of client safety, and even legal consequences. Assignments typically involve tasks such as administering medications, providing wound care, assisting with hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and more. Assignments should be based on the nurses’ skills, experience, and the needs of the clients. Effective assignment ensures that client care is appropriately distributed and managed. Assignments are based on the nursing model that the organization follows.
