For Females : 1. Get the proper container for the urine specimen. 2. Instruct the client to use one antiseptic wipe for each swipe from front to back and inner to outer labia. 3. Keep the labia spread open, urinate a small amount into the toilet bowl, then stop the flow of urine.

Sputum Specimen Collection ● Provide the client with a specimen collection container. ● Instruct the client to take a deep breath, cough, and expel sputum into the container, avoiding saliva contamination. ● Label and transport the specimen to the laboratory. Throat Culture Collection ● Instruct the client to open their mouth widely and stick out their tongue. ● Insert a sterile swab into the back of the throat and wipe areas of redness, swelling, or exudate. ● Place the swab into a specimen container, tighten the lid, and send it to the laboratory.
