Sputum Specimen Collection ●​ Provide the client with a specimen collection container. ●​ Instruct the client to take a deep breath, cough, and expel sputum into the container, avoiding saliva contamination. ●​ Label and transport the specimen to the laboratory. Throat Culture Collection ●​ Instruct the client to open their mouth widely and stick out their tongue. ●​ Insert a sterile swab into the back of the throat and wipe areas of redness, swelling, or exudate. ●​ Place the swab into a specimen container, tighten the lid, and send it to the laboratory. Nurses also play a crucial role in educating clients about the purpose, preparation, procedures, results, and implications of diagnostic tests, ensuring they understand the importance of these tests for their health.
