Nursing 104

N104: Essentials of Nursing Care – Health Safety Study Guide • Listening to the patient's questions and concerns and evaluation of non-verbal communication. • Collaborating with the patient and other teammembers to obtain feedback aboutthe patient's educational experiences. • Discussion and observation of returndemonstrations: o The nurse may use written tests to verify the specific knowledge. This option should only be used if the patient is capable of reading and writing. o The nurse may use oral tests when the patient is not capable of reading and/or writing. Oral testing can be done in a less threatening, unofficial manner by asking questions about key points throughout thetesting. o The nurse may use discussion to review the teaching points and evaluate the patient's or caregiver's comfort with the points being discussed. o The nurse may use return demonstrations to evaluate a new skill. In this method, the nurse demonstrates the skill and then asks the patient to do a return demonstration of the skill. These return demonstrations can be repeated until the patient feels comfortable with the skill.
