Transverse colostomy produces malodorous mushy drainage with no patient control. Descending colostomy produces increasingly solid fecal drainage. Sigmoidoscopy produces stool that is normal and has a formed consistency. Frequency can be regulated. The client may not have to wear an appliance at all times, and odors can usually be controlled.
