4.1.3 Vertical Bar Graphs In order to learn how to read data from vertical bar graphs, let us view the graph given as under:

In the above graph, the x axis (horizontal axis) shows two years, 2013 and 2014, while the y - axis (vertical axis) shows the amount of profits (in 1000s). In order to read the bar graphs, the line from the top of the graphs should be joined to the y -axis to find the value. In this case, as given by the shorter of the two bars, the amount of profits earned in 2003 is $20,000 while in 2014, the profits earned are $30,000. One can even play with this data to find different values, like the percentage change in profits between the two years. 4.1.4 Horizontal Bar Graphs Horizontal bar graphs are same as vertical bar graphs. It is just that the representation becomes a little different, but both depict the same information. In this case, the values for the axis interchanges and in order to find the values, join the lines from top of the bars to the horizontal x -axis. Here is the example:
