Other expressions with tener ● You have used tener to show possession and to say you have to (do something). Tengo muchos amigos. I have many friends. Tienes que asistir a clase. You have to attend class. ● There are other common expressions with tener where English uses the verb to be. Note that many of these refer to things we might feel (hunger, thirst, cold, etc.)
¿ Tienes hambre?
Are you hungry?
No, pero tengo frío.
No, but I’m cold. We’re in a hurry.
Tenemos prisa.
Tienen ganas de visitar México.
They feel like visiting (are eager to visit) Mexico.
