Perform assigned exercise Utilize proper technique
Instruct patient to perform assigned exercise • Instruct the patient with Active ROM on the 3 joints of the assigned extremity using pronation/supination or adduction/abduction *or* • Perform Passive ROM on the 3 joints of the assigned extremity using pronation/supination or adduction/abduction supporting the weight of the extremity • Perform a minimum of two repetitions for each major joint • Apply supportive or therapeutic devices if ordered/indicated [e.g., splints, slings, immobilizers, traction, braces, continuous passive motion (CPM)] • Apply heat or cold to the extremity if ordered: Protect skin Apply to designated body part Apply at designated temperature Maintain treatment for a maximum of 15 minutes unless otherwise assigned • Maintain traction: Verify prescribed weight Ensure rope is unobstructed Ensure the weights hang freely Positioning the patient to provide counter traction Maintain patient in correct alignment • Activity Prepare for activity (e.g., dangle legs, consider vital signs) Support affected parts of body Provide patient with identified assistive device Position chair/bed/commode for safe transfer Use intervention to prevent shearing of skin Move patient to a different position Use external device to keep patient in desired position • Evaluate joint mobility • Evaluate pain with movement • Document: Education provided Learner understanding of education provided Morse Fall Scale Score Morse Fall Scale Risk Level (No Risk, Low Risk, High Risk) Assessment data for assigned extremity(ies) • Appearance • Muscle strength • Joint mobility • Symptoms Nursing interventions implemented Fall prevention
