Intelligence Stability and Change

Factors such as education, lifestyle, and mental stimulation influence how intelligence changes over time. Giftedness Giftedness is more than just a high IQ (above 130) . It includes: ● Advanced cognitive abilities (strong problem-solving skills). ● Curiosity and creativity (thinking beyond conventional ideas). ● Asynchronous development (intellectual skills may develop faster than emotional or social skills). Since standardized IQ tests may not capture all gifted traits, identifying giftedness requires multiple approaches, including: ● Observing creativity and problem-solving abilities.

● Assessing a child’s eagerness to learn and explore new ideas. ● Supporting both intellectual and emotional growth in education. F. Social Development Throughout the Lifespan

Understanding how individuals grow and change socially over time requires examining the fundamental principles that shape social interactions and relationships. These foundational aspects of social development influence how people form connections, navigate social norms, and adapt to their

environments from infancy to adulthood. Foundations of Social Development

Social development occurs as children build relationships, interact with others, and learn to manage their emotions. Several key theories explain how early relationships shape a child’s emotional and social well-being. Harlow’s Monkey Experiment In the 1950s, Harry Harlow conducted experiments with baby monkeys to study attachment. He placed them with two surrogate mothers: ● Wire mother: Provided food but had a hard, cold surface. ● Cloth mother: Did not provide food but was soft and comforting. The monkeys preferred the cloth mother, clinging to her for comfort and only going to the wire mother for feeding.
