The ANA has created standards of care and practice that influence the nurse’s practice. The nurse should be involved in quality management as it applies to her practice. She should understand her role in the review process and how she can improve her practice. AD nurses work in various organizational settings, including primary nursing, team nursing, and functional nursing by working in collaboration with BSN nurses and diploma nurses. There are strengths and weaknesses for each of these structures. In order to achieve competence in her practice, the AD nurse must develop various strategies in her practice. Examples of these strategies include effective communication techniques, group process and group decision making, critical thinking, delegation, and the ability to lead as well as the ability to understand and implement conflict management principles.
